- Alcohol has been known to increase digestion, but this may be due to its relaxing effect, when a person has a couple of drinks before a meal. In higher "doses", alcohol can cause gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining), which is one of the reasons that an individual may experience heartburn and nausea the day after binge drinking; heavy drinking on a continuous basis can lead to stomach ulceration.
- Research has suggested that some people consume alcohol to relieve feelings of stress.
- Alcohol intoxication increases the risk of motor-vehicle traffic crashes, violence, and other injuries.
- Although state laws set the blood alcohol content (BAC) limit at 0.08%, there is a huge amount of evidence suggesting that lower BACs can also affect driving skills.
