Excessive alcohol use accounts for 2.3 million years of potential life lost (YPLL) annually, or an average of about 30 years of potential life lost for each death.
One third of suicides are associated with alcohol abuse.
In 2009, the reported that 37% of 8th graders and 72% of 12th graders had tried alcohol, and 15% of 8th graders and 44% of 12th graders drank during the past month.
Even if a person is not alcohol dependant, the abuse of alcohol can have a negative impact on their lives; all it takes is one incident of drunk driving in order for a fatal automobile accident to occur.
